Australia
We’re in Sydney!
After 3 flights and over 26 hours of traveling, we finally made it to Sydney! Day One was almost a complete daze. We were jet lagged, our muscles were tight from the cramped seating and we were still pretty tired, even with the 10+ hours of sleep on the plane! The flights were long, but we met a few people who gave us some great tips for getting around Sydney.
When we got into Sydney we grabbed a bus/train pass, and took the train into Kings Cross, which is known as the backpackers area of Sydney, “meaning plenty of hostels“. We walked all over the area trying to find some free wifi so we could book a place to stay, eventually coming to a backpackers travel center where we were able to use our laptop to do some research on the best hostels to stay in. We walked to at least 5 hostels, all over Kings Cross, searching for an opening with a private room, we finally settled at Eva’s backpackers.
Exhausted from walking in circles, we dropped our gear and headed off for some food. By the way, Australia’s food culture AMAZING, and completely different from the US, well at least different from North Carolina. There are barley any commercialized restaurants. The city has its main roads and its alley ways filled with tiny little cafes all independently owned! And the food is amazing, all real ingredients and quality made.
Our first food experience was at Room 10 a small coffee and sandwich shop. Jordan order an Australian twist a brisket sandwich and I ordered a avocado chicken salad sandwich, which was one of those most amazing sandwiches i’ve ever had! And of course we both had a cappuccino. It was so good that jordan didn’t even add sugar to it (which he never goes without), that really says something!
After we refueled we walked toward downtown Sydney, through the royal gardens and eventually made our way to the infamous opera house.
Now that we’re finally adjusting to this new living for the next couple of months, we’ll get better at posting our adventures! So check back soon for more images and tid bits in our gallery tab.
