The Great Ocean Road is an Australian ocean highway similar to the Cali Hwy 1. The highway not only takes you along the beautiful ocean scenery, but also through dense bush, mountains and yes some farm land. Being about 3 hours from it we almost decided not to do it, but everyone we came in contact with told us its an Australian must!
With a late start, we took a backroad to get to the highway and drove along The Great Ocean Road on the way back to Melbourne. Our first point of interest was the most popular scene along the road, the 12 Apostles. The 12 Apostles are eroded mountains formations that now each stand alone, following along the coast. Only around 9 of the 12 are left standing, so we were really glad to have seen them before they all disappear. Becoming more comfortable driving in Australia the day before, things went a lot smoother. And I must say it was good to have driven the day before because The Great Ocean Road is NOT for beginners. The road snakes tightly through the mountains, with the ocean cliff edge directly opposite. There is little room for mistakes and mind you the speed limit is 100 km/hr and yes jordan was flying through the tight roads like he was a character in a video game, while I held to the ceiling praying for my survival. All-in-all it was great fun for the both of us.
Along the way to made many stops to view the scenery and take pictures. We went through many cute mountain towns, saw lots of cows, took a long forest side road to check out some wild koalas and went to the all famous Bondi beach just in time for the sunset. The sunset at Bondi Beach was simply a dream. A surfers paradise, the beach was still packed with beach bums and their dogs, trying to catch some waves before the sun went down.
