Healesville Sanctuary

By on March 8, 2016

The one cliche thing we wanted to do in Australia, was see some Australian animals.  After being told that we could see all the animals in the normal Australia Zoo downtown, we still decided it was in our best interest to visit a Sanctuary specifically for Australia animals only.  However, we could only do this by renting a car or a very expensive cab ride. Car rental it is! After picking up our rental car from Europcar, we headed to Healesville Sanctuary (HS), about an hour and a half away from where we were staying. HS is a zoo, specifically for rescued or endangered Australian animals.

Our car was a small Hyundai 6spd (right hand drive of course) For those who don’t know, Australians drive on the left side of the road. So driving was a little bit of a challenge, but with my co-pilot we did great! We made a few mistakes, i.e. accidentally driving on the right side of the road (even quickly turning right into oncoming traffic) but we made it, in one piece! Phew!
